The Barnier family has lived in Sarrians for generations back as far as can be traced. They are proud of their heritage in these lands lying in the Rhone Valley between the Ouveze River and and the peaks of Les Dentelles de Montmirail.
Jean and his son Jean-Francois are carrying on the values of generations with the spirit of enterprise and the passion for wine making. They have developed the vine nursery in harmony with the wine production in the Domaine so that both are now internationally famous.
The “Clos” or “Chateau du Clos” has a long history. It was laid to siege in the battle of Sarrians in April 1791. People from Avignon were fighting the people of Carpentras during the Revolution as part of the struggle to liberate Comtat Venaissin from its Papal past. The Barnier family have continued the link by choosing the “Fontaine du Clos” as the emblem of their “Domaine”.
The fountain is located at the heart of the farm. It has been witness to their adventurous spirit, their times of happiness and their times of sadness. The fountain has seen the ebb and flow of the generations following each other, personalities asserting themselves with time passing. It has for them become a mythical place, a source of great inspiration.
Depending on the season, the hour of the day or the soul of the beholder, the fountain is tinged with the colours of life, with reflections and nuances which trail to infinity.
Located in the Comtat-Venaissin, in the heart of Vaucluse quality labels of origin, the 70 hectares of the Domaine Fontaine du Clos are established on clay, chalky and stony soil. The 40 different varieties of vine grown on our vineyard, flooded with sun and ideally purified by the Mistral wind, allow the production of high quality wines of various aromas.
